What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a common, long-term skin condition characterized by facial redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like breakouts. It primarily affects adults aged 30 to 60 and is more prevalent in women. The condition can cause flushing, persistent redness, and red pimples, often affecting the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. Unlike acne, rosacea is accompanied by burning or stinging sensations and can be triggered by lifestyle and dietary factors such as exercise, stress, hot and spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and even certain cheeses. Effective management through proper skincare and treatment can significantly reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
How does it work?
treatment involves a combination of advanced therapies tailored to your individual needs. We often recommend light-based treatments such as LED or IPL therapy, which target the blood vessels responsible for redness and inflammation, effectively reducing symptoms. These non-invasive treatments are usually performed in multiple sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, with maintenance treatments to sustain results. Our comprehensive approach also includes lifestyle and dietary guidance to help you identify and avoid triggers, ensuring long-term control of your rosacea so do not hesitate to contact our expert team today.

Rosacea FAQ's section

Most Popular Questions

No, rosacea is not contagious. While certain microbes may play a role in triggering symptoms, the condition cannot be spread through skin-to-skin contact. Antibiotic treatments are often effective because of their anti-inflammatory effects, rather than their ability to kill bacteria.

Rosacea is typically a chronic condition that can flare up repeatedly over time. For some people, treatment provides long-lasting relief, while others may require ongoing or repeated therapies to manage symptoms effectively. In certain cases, continual treatment is necessary to keep the condition under control.

Rosacea most commonly appears between the ages of 30 and 60, though it can occasionally affect teenagers and young adults. Early onset is less common but still possible, so monitoring skin changes at any age is important.

Rosacea is often categorised into four subtypes, although many individuals show features of more than one type:

Erythematotelangiectatic – persistent redness and visible small blood vessels.

Papulopustular – bumps and pus-filled spots resembling acne.

Phymatous – skin thickening and swelling, most noticeably on the nose (rhinophyma).

Ocular – affects the eyes, causing irritation, redness, or watery eyes.

Rosacea affects an estimated 5% of people globally and can occur in all skin types, though it is more frequently seen in lighter skin tones. Up to one in ten Caucasians may have some form of rosacea, with most cases being mild. Around 14% of Caucasian women and 5% of men are affected, while more severe forms, such as rhinophyma, are more common in men.
