How It Works?

Our Process

Our process begins with a comprehensive consultation to assess your skin's condition and understand your specific concerns. During this consultation, we conduct a thorough skin analysis to identify the extent of sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Based on this assessment, we develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. This plan may include a combination of in-clinic treatments such as chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and LED phototherapy, alongside a personalized home skincare regimen. Regular follow-up appointments ensure we monitor your progress, adjust treatments as needed, and provide ongoing support to achieve optimal results, ensuring your skin stays healthy and vibrant.
What is Sun Damage?
Sun damage occurs when prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun causes harm to the skin, leading to various forms of hyperpigmentation and premature aging. The skin produces melanin as a defense mechanism against UV rays, but excessive sun exposure can lead to overproduction of melanin, resulting in dark spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. Sun damage also breaks down collagen and elastin fibers, causing wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. This damage is cumulative and can become more visible over time, making it essential to protect your skin with daily SPF and seek professional treatments to reverse its effects. How does it work?
Treatment for sun damage and hyperpigmentation at Symmetry Aesthetics involves a multi-faceted approach designed to target and reduce excess melanin production and improve overall skin health. Chemical peels exfoliate the skin, removing damaged outer layers and promoting cell turnover for a more even complexion. Laser resurfacing and Dermapen microneedling stimulate collagen production and break down pigmented cells, reducing the appearance of dark spots. LED phototherapy helps reduce inflammation and promotes healing. Combined with medical-grade skincare products, these treatments work synergistically to diminish pigmentation, smooth the skin, and restore its natural radiance, delivering noticeable and lasting results.

Sun Damage & Pigmentation FAQ's section

Most Popular Questions

Pigmentation develops when the skin responds to UV exposure by producing melanin, its natural protective barrier. Excess melanin can accumulate, forming freckles that may enlarge over time into sun or age spots, commonly seen in later years. Prolonged sun exposure can also lead to actinic keratoses, rough pink lesions that are precancerous and require monitoring for potential malignancy.

Pigmentation treatments typically last between five and thirty minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the area being treated. If a topical anaesthetic is required, an additional twenty to thirty minutes may be needed for it to take full effect. Our expert team will discuss timing and any preparation in detail to ensure a comfortable and effective treatment experience.

Prolonged sun exposure accelerates skin ageing by generating free radicals, which damage cells, DNA, and collagen, reducing the skin’s ability to repair itself. Over time, this leads to fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and reduced elasticity. Sun damage can also weaken blood vessels, causing superficial capillaries, facial redness, and flushing, further contributing to a tired, aged appearance.

It is a misconception that skin must burn to sustain sun damage. UVB rays cause visible sunburn and epidermal damage, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the dermis, driving photo-ageing without causing redness. UVA exposure occurs even through glass, meaning damage can accumulate indoors or while driving, making consistent protection essential to maintain youthful, healthy skin.

Treatments for pigmentation and facial redness work by precisely targeting unwanted lesions. Brown pigmentation, such as age or sun spots, absorbs laser energy more than surrounding skin, breaking down excess melanin. Red vascular lesions, including small veins or rosacea, are treated by gently heating vessel walls, causing them to weaken and be naturally absorbed, restoring an even, refined complexion.
